Surge Protection Device (SPD-2) to protect ActiveLED® fixtures and power supplies from damaging electrical surges

  • This UL 1449 Edition 2 Surge Protection Device (SPD-2) - has very low internal inductance, designed specifically to protect higher-value ActiveLED® light fixtures from high voltage and / or high-amperage electrical surges associated with lightning strikes, ballast-based light fixtures, electric motors, etc.

  • Installed in the Junction Box of any ActiveLED® light fixture and wired between the main AC line feed (100-277 VAC) and the AC connection to the light fixture with a maximum let-through voltage of 600V (10kA) 800V (20kA)

  • The SPD is considered to be a "sacrificial" or "disposable" device that is designed to fail when any potentially harmful AC electrical surges are sensed, thereby protecting the valuable ActiveLED fixture

  • An LED status light visible through the end-cap of the SPD signifies if the SPD is functional or needs to be replaced

  • Integrated common mode filter for very short transients and additional EMI filtering

  • The device is designed to UL-1449 Edition 2, with MOV devices that in conjunction with a Ringdale LED driver will protect;
    Common Mode: 1 at 20kA, 2 at 6kA or 5 at 4.5kA
    Differential Mode: 1 at 10kA, 2 at 4.5kA

  • Modes of protection: line-to-neutral (L-N), line-to-ground (L-G), and neutral-to-ground (N-G) protection

  • The device may be used to protect non Ringdale devices.

Note:The device carries no guarantee that it will protect the device connected. It often does but lightning strikes can be traumatic events to electrical and electronic circuits and can have energy levels that can not be dealt with by any low cost protection device

Surge Protection Device (SPD-2) to protect higher-value ActiveLED® fixtures from damaging electrical surges

An optional Surge Protection Device designed specifically to protect ActiveLED® light fixtures or power supplies from high voltage and / or high-amperage electrical surges associated with lighting strikes, etc. 100-277 VAC, 1.5 Amp maximum load

The SPD may be installed in the Junction Box of any ActiveLED light fixture and is wired between the main AC line feed and the AC connection to the light fixture.

The SPD is considered to be a "sacrificial" or "disposable" device in that any potentially harmful electrical surges may cause the low-cost SPD to fail, thereby protecting the valuable ActiveLED fixture.

The SPD has a small status LED that is visible through the end-cap. If this LED is illuminated it signifies that AC power is connected and the SPD is functioning correctly.

If the LED is not illuminated it signifies that either AC power is not connected or the SPD has "sacrificed" itself in protecting the higher-value light fixture from a power surge. If the SPD has performed correctly and has protected an ActiveLED light fixture from an electrical surge, the SPD will need to be replaced.

Surge Protection Device installed in an ActiveLED Street Light

The example below shows the SPD installed inside the Junction Box of an ActiveLED Street Light. The SPD is small enough to be installed in the Junction Box of most ActiveLED outdoor light fixtures. Alternatively the SPD can be installed in the hand-hole at the base of the pole for easy access.

When all of the wire connections have been correctly and securely made, the wiring is carefully tucked inside the junction box along with the SPD and the cover plate replaced. The SPD is inside an insulated sleeve and the status LED is visible through the end cap, the LED is illuminated when AC power is applied and the SPD is fully functional. If power is applied and the LED is not illuminated, this indicates that the SPD has done its job in protecting the higher-value light fixture from a high-energy surge and needs to be replaced.

For added convenience, the SPD could just as easily be installed inside the access panel at the base of the mounting pole supporting the street light.

ActiveLED® Technology

Ringdale uses the latest in energy efficient LEDs and LED Modules producing equal or greater light output than traditional lighting technology. Our state-of-the-art electronics monitor current and temperature of the LED substrate to assure maximum performance under the prevailing environmental conditions and a Lumen Lifetime of 90,000 hours (90% Luminous Flux).

ActiveLED® Warranties

We provide mechanically robust outdoor lighting systems; our warranties are 10 years on LED elements, Fixtures and Drivers / Power supplies.
There is no warranty on this Surge Protector as it is a consumable part and is considered to be a "sacrificial" or "disposable" device. Effective May 1st 2017, when a SPD is ordered separately with applicable ActiveLED fixtures, the warranty is extended by an additional two years, from 10 to 12 years.

Note: Ringdale's warranty is a return to factory warranty, and the customer has to cover any other associated cost to install or replace surge protectors or fixtures. Ringdale is an ISO 9001:2015 company. Ringdale provides products of the highest quality designed and manufactured in Texas, USA and in the United Kingdom.
